Pixie Girl (also spelled as Pixigirl or Pixi Girl) was a planned French CGI-animated series. It was going to be a co-production between Zagtoon, Method Animation, and Planeta Junior.[2]
As of 2022, the project has been shelved due to ZAG Entertainment retooling it into a feature film Fairy Force.
Synopsis[]
- A spunky, adventurous Pixie and her awestruck human friend explore New York City while battling the tyrannical rule of the city’s evil wytches, who scheme to forever cast away the city’s ties to pixies and the purity of nature. Using magical pixie powers, Pixie Girl must race a ticking clock, to thwart the wytches’ evil plots and return to the safety of Central Park before her glow is gone forever. Will special powers, pure intent, and a human partnership be enough to revive the city’s lost ties to nature? We’re betting on it![3]
Development[]

The series was first announced on Jeremy Zag's Instagram on February 20, 2015. The television series was originally going to be about "the impossible love between a fairy who fight witches, and a young sorcerer" in New York City.[4]
Pixie Girl was featured at MIPCOM 2015. However, the project wasn't able to find broadcasters who would be interested in purchasing the rights for it. As a result, the television series didn't get greenlighted into production.[5]
In 2016, the series premise was reworked to focus on Pixie Girl's partnership with a human boy.[6] As part of the change, the titular superheroine was given a redesign by Angie Nasca.[7] Pixie Girl was later featured at MIPCOM again in 2016 and 2017. However, just like the first time, the project wasn't able to get greenlighted due a lack of interest from broadcasters wanting to purchase the rights for it at the event. This causes its release to be further delayed and the crew having to continue to try developing it from 2018 to 2020.[8][9][10]
Eventually, in 2022, the television series was shelved from production after it was retooled into an animated musical feature film called Fairy Force.[11][12]
Trivia[]
- Because Pixie Girl has been retooled into Fairy Force, it's unknown if plans for the television series are still happening. If it is, the TV series would likely serve as a spin-off/sequel to the film.
- While it's unconfirmed, a possible reason for Pixie Girl getting delayed multiple times is that the crew was unable to sell the rights for the television series. The series was confirmed to be pitched at MIPCOM three consecutive times, but none of the broadcasters at the event were interested in purchasing it.[5][8][9]
- On July 23, 2016, a demo of the theme song was played during a teaser at a Miraculous Ladybug panel at San Diego Comic-Con. However, it's currently unknown if the theme song would be reused for Fairy Force.[13]
- As confirmed on the official ZAG website in 2016, two seasons were originally planned for the television series. The first season was projected to premiere in 2018, and was to be followed by a second season in 2019.[14]
- A web series was also planned to be released a year before the first season in 2017. It was intended to promote the television series before it was eventually shelved.
- When the series was first pitched at MIPCOM 2015, there was originally going to be thirty-nine half-hour episodes.[15] However, when the series premise was reworked in 2016, the number of episodes increased to seventy-eight and were planned to be eleven-minute long.[16]
- According to an old PDF document that was on the official Method Animation website between 2016 to 2017, the series was planned to have a budget of €9,800,000 ($10,483,207.00 at the time). It was also revealed that the number of episodes was going to be reduce to fifty-two episodes.[17]
